David Jacobson, the brand new U.S. Ambassador to Canada, visited the University of Calgary on Tuesday, October 13th. Jacobson, the deputy national finance chairman for U.S. president Barack Obama’s campaign, sat down with Off The Page’s Katy Anderson for an exclusive interview. He spoke about striking a balance between U.S. energy security and protecting the environment, Canada’s mission in Afghanistan, and the Buy American policy.
CJSW’s Joe Burima sat down with the university student union’s VP External, Kay She, to talk about student debt, and about a recent student union-sponsored event designed to draw attention to the issue.
On a chilly Monday morning last week, over a hundred women gathered outside the McDougall Centre. The group of mainly aboriginal women had gathered to take part in the 6th annual Sisters in Spirit/Healing our Sacred Circle” Peace Walk and Ceremony. The Sisters in Spirit Initiaitive began in 2004 as a way to raise awareness of the more than 520 missing and murdered Aboriginal women and to encourage more action on preventing violence against women.
Millions of Canadians struggle with literacy. In an effort to raise awareness of this issue, a Canadian based literacy foundation is celebrating their 12th annual Family Literacy Day on January 27th 2010. To help promote the event, they’ve partnered up with one of Canada’s most renowned authors and Honorary Chair of Family Literacy Day, Robert Munsch. One lucky Canadian family will win a day with the author.
