#yyc The Compost Council of Canada is making it’s way through Alberta July 23rd to 27th. With their Compost Garden Parties they are bringing citizens together to share ideas, build support for sustainable garden practices, talk compost and have some fun. Susan Antler and Tom Lonescu talked to CJSW’s Joe Burima about the cross-Canada initiative.

On July 23, 1914 a steamship filled with passengers from India, The Komagata Maru, was turned away from Canadian shores. We spoke with Dr. Hugh Johnston on the incident and its legacy.

#uofc The Bike Root hosted a townhall meeting at the University of Calgary on Monday, July 5th, to discuss the future location of the community bike shop. The shop received a notice to vacate from Campus Planning last week. Greg Chernoff of CJSW’s Soapbox Derby talked to Robbie Williams about the Bike Root’s options.

Many groups such as Amnesty International and the Canadian Civil Liberties Association have been demanding a probe into the police action during the G20 summit in Toronto, specifically on Saturday, June 26th during the People First March that ended with a mass arrest in Queen’s Park. CJSW’s Brad Cooke attended the march and recalls his experience.
